| John Bennett Halley was born on October 21, 1869 in Sopchoppy, Florida and died on June 24, 1940 in Blountstown, Florida. He lived to be 70 years old.
He was a Farmer, Stable owner, Owner/Operator of the Purina Feed Store. He ran a Skating Rink on the second floor of his store. He also operated a sawmill and owned a turpentine still at the site of the present day Charlie Johns St. Bridge.
About 1903 they lived in a home at the present day corner of Angle and Main St. in Blountstown In about 1908 they moved west of town in the area of present day Hummingbird Way. The homestead was originally own by Jonas Bailey. Mary became tired of living so far out in the county and her husband spending long days in town. So, in 1912 John bought some land on Hwy 69 north from Levi Yon and built a large home there. Years later they moved even closer in to a home next to the feed store on Main St. |
