Nancy Moriah Crow was born on an unknown day in June 1833 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and died about 1901 in Haralson County, Georgia. Actual date of death is unknown. She lived to be about 67 years old.
Her parents may have been Rev. Abraham Crow and Mariah Foster Timmons Crow who were living in Spartanburg, SC in 1830. Abraham's father was born in Prince George County, Virgina in 1763 and moved to Spartanburg District, SC around 1822 where he met and married his wife, Mariah. Abraham was also a private in the Revolutionary War.
Nancy may have had brothers named Joel and Tom and a sisters named Lucinda (who married Chambers' brother, Wiley) and Francis M. Crow.
Nancy Crow is burried in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Haralson County, GA.
A story passed down from Callie Walker (Chambers and Nancy's daughter) provides a first hand account of the Battle of Atlanta. The family was living west of Atlanta (most likely present day Douglas County) when Callie remembers hearing the canons and guns as well as seeing fire in the distance. Callie also remembered when the Yankees came to their house. She said they did not hurt anyone or their belongings because her mother, Nancy Crow, was crippled. |
