Permelia Elizabeth Segars was born on March 12, 1838 in Early County, Georgia and died about 1905 in Dale County, Alabama. Actual date of death is unknown. She lived to be about 66 years old.
Her daughter, Josephine stated in the 1880 census that her father was born in Alabama and her mother was born in Georgia. Past down in the family is the Knight name, that appears as her name on her son, Henry's death certificate,
But 1942 her son, stated her name is Josephine Strickland on his SSN application.
We are happy to finally find her parents! Permelia was the daughter of Southward Thurman Segars Jr. and Clarkey May Moore. Elizabeth married Wylie J. Strickland and they had two children, Josephine and Henry Kinion Strickland. After the death of her husband in the Civil War, she remarried to Richard Ellison Bass. In 1880 census her family live a few doors down from the Howard family in Brannon's Stand, Dale Co. Alabama. |
