John Wesley Peacock 12/13/1843 - 12/31/1925 (Shown at age 77)
| John Wesley Peacock was born on December 13, 1843 in Decatur County, Georgia and died on December 31, 1925 in Blountstown, Florida. He lived to be 82 years old.
On his 1907 Civil War Pension form he states he was born December 13, 1840. He also states he is 5'6" tall with hazel eyes, light complexion and light hair. He moved from Georgia to Florida with his family when he was four months old.
He enlisted at Rico's Bluff in March of 1862 in the CSA Florida Infantry, Co. H, 5th Regiment and served as a Private. He fought in the battles of Battles of Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, Antietam and Fredricksburg in 1862, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg in 1863,The FL 5th were attached to Picket's Division, and took part in the attack on the 3rd day. In 1864 he was a the battle of Cold Harbor, then he lost his little finger on his left hand in the battle of Petersburg. At the battle on the Patomac River he was shot in the foot.
His company surrendered at the High Bridge, at the Appomatox River, three days before the end of the war. John was able to escape and joined up with General Lee's army at Bunker Hill where the entire army surrendered. He return to his home and work as a Farmer and Merchant.
First marriage to Rosa/Rhoda Eleanor Parrish (see children listed below), second to Mary Charlotte Parrish (see children listed below) and third to Susannah Halley Parish Kelly born 3/10/1876 died 2/2/1937 (they had no children). His first and second wives were sisters. His third wife was a cousin and sister-in-law. |
