Both parents died of typhoid fever about 1886/87 when Mamie was about 18 months old. The Goostrees were tenants of Mr. W. S. Criddle and he became her foster father. A trunk with the effects of her parents was stored in a barn; the barn burned down when she was a small child. Her memory of the contents was a lock of her mother's hair (which was red).
Nora Criddle was her step mother and William S. Criddle (1840-1910) was her foster father.
Mamie is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Rest Haven Lot #329, Nashville, TN
