Keith (TurnKey) Brown was in the US Air Force from July 30, 1968 through August 19, 1979. He served two tours in Vietnam and was a member of a unique unit named Safeside. He received numerous commendations including Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/device, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, AF Outstanding Unit Award, and AF Longevity Service Award.
The photo to the right was taken shortly after his 19th birthday in Blen Hoa AB, RVN.
Keith was very active in helping others with PTSD as well as working on his own problems. In the early days of the internet, Keith started one of the first Vietnam Veterans discussion lists. It is still active on the Denver Colorado Freenet. He was a former Squad Leader for the Vietnam Veterans Home Page in the Veterans Organizations and Support Groups section. The VVHP also posted a tribute to Keith. He also started and for a period of time maintained a list of e-mail addresses for the VietnamVets IRC channel on EFnet. He would notify members when the channel was open or when someone needed to chat.
Two of Keith's poems have been posted here:
