Graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 2:00 P.M.in the Parrott City Cemetery with Rev. David Martin officiating.
Virginia (known as "Biggie" to her family and closest friends) was born September 22, 1914 in Patmos in Baker County, Georgia, daughter of the late J.W. Turner and Minnie Lee Howard Turner. Both of her parents died when she was a young child, a loving aunt and uncle, Mattie and Alex Smith added her and her brother, James, to their already large family. Surviving cousins of this family are Ruby Drinkwater and Maude Paul of Edison, Lee Turner of Cuthbert, Odell Turner of Shellman and Dot Milner of Dickey. Deceased members of this family are the parents and Phil Smith and Gertrude Jackson.
Virginia's younger sisters, were adopted by other families and now deceased, were Julia Lee Connell and Theta Lee Gladin.
She was married to Robert Livingston Mims who died in 1966. She was a homemaker, strongly devoted to her family and friends. Surviving are her daughters, Norene Pritchard of Parrott and Gayle Morgan (Franklin) of Americus.
Her deceased children were Glynn Mims, Bobby Mims, Myrtle Smith and Joyce Bethea and sons-in-law, Ray Smith, Jimmy Pritchard and Johnny Bethea.
She leaves behind a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
"Biggie" will be missed by her family and many special friends as well as those who traveled Highway #520 through Parrott and delighted in waving at her as she sat on her porch daily accompanied by a very special member of her extended family, Bobby Pritchard. |
